TIRANA, October 21 /ATSH/ – Minister of Justice Toni Gogu emphasized today the importance of free legal aid for citizens who are involved in disputes and lack the financial means to hire a lawyer.

In a social media post, Gogu stressed that violence cannot be a solution to disagreements and that every citizen should have the opportunity to defend themselves and seek a solution through the law.

“When faced with violence, no one should feel alone or unprotected. The law exists to guarantee the rights of every citizen and to provide solutions to any situation through legal channels,” the minister stated.

He noted that free legal aid enables citizens to receive the necessary legal support, even when they cannot afford the costs of a lawyer.

“No dispute should ever escalate into violence. However, it is not enough to simply say ‘resolve it through the law’; we must also make that possible,” Gogu emphasized.

The minister urged citizens in need of legal support to reach out to the free legal aid service. “Do not stand alone in the face of any injustice,” read his message.

TIRANA, January 21 /ATA/ Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Andis Salla said that he has begun a tour of hearings with farmers across the country, with the aim of better adapting the national farmer support scheme to their needs.

During the visit to Kavaja and Rogozhina, Minister Salla emphasized the significance of listening to farmers and their involvement in adapting the scheme, enabling them to provide suggestions and highlight any issues related to the scheme or their benefits.

“We have a budget of around 52 million euros for this scheme, so that the farmers can apply and benefit,” said the minister, adding that his tour will continue in all municipalities of Albania.

Regarding the damage caused by the floods in several areas, Minister Salla said that the government has set a financial package for all the affected farmers. He added that work is underway to fully document the damages in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, civil emergency and municipalities, in order to come up with concrete decisions and quick compensation for the affected farmers.

“As you saw a few days ago, we have finalized a comprehensive funding package from the Albanian government so that all those affected will be included in the financial package. We are documenting the damages caused together with the Ministry of Agriculture, civil emergency and municipalities so that we have a complete record and come up with a decision, which will be made public very soon”, he said. /e.xh/a.f/p.s./

PRISHTINA, December 13/ATA/ A ship carrying humanitarian aid from Kosovo for Palestinians in war-torn Gaza has departed from the port of Mersin in Turkey for the Palestinian enclave, acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Saturday.

In a Facebook post, Kurti wrote that the shipment, worth 500,000 euros, includes tents, food packages, blankets and 158,000 hot food rations for the local residents in need.

Kurti’s government had allocated the money for the humanitarian shipment in January, but its delivery was only made possible now, Kurti wrote, after the ceasefire reached in October, brokered by US President Donald Trump.

Kurti added the humanitarian aid, “represents Kosovo’s commitment as part of international solidarity to support the civilian population facing immense hardship in Gaza.”

The Gaza War was sparked by an October 7, 2023, attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas on Israel, which killed 1,200 people and abducted 251 others. Israel’s retaliatory war in Gaza has since then killed more than 70,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities. /p.s./

TIRANA, August 16 /ATA/ Following the serious situation caused by fires in several areas of the country, especially in Gramsh, Delvina and Himara, the Ministry of Defense has intervened to support the affected livestock farmers, distributing significant amounts of fodder.

Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu announced today that in support of the livestock farmers of the Gramsh municipality, the General Directorate of State Material Reserves distributed 11 tons of fodder.

Meanwhile, he emphasized, in Delvina and Himara, in recent days, livestock farmers in the area have been helped with 38 tons of fodder.

The process of evaluating the damages caused by the fires has also begun in the affected municipalities.

Earlier, Prime Minister Edi Rama assured residents affected by the fires that compensation for damages caused by the fires will be carried out in each affected municipality, according to a special procedure, which begins with their identification by the Evaluation Group for the inventory of damages.

The relevant structure is established by order of the mayor and is tasked with identifying damages to housing, infrastructure, businesses, agricultural crops, mechanical equipment, as well as to facilities with a social or cultural function.

The group completes the relevant forms, which reflect the damages along with their financial evaluation, creating a clear picture of the needs for intervention and support.

Then, the municipalities prepare lists of damaged entities, along with all accompanying documentation, which precedes the final assessment phase. /a.gj/ /a.g/p.s./

TIRANA, Feb 15 /ATA/ – The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated Thursday that Albania was one of the first countries to condemn Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine two years ago.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Tirana, Blinken also underlined that Albania is one of the ten main contributing countries which have committed the most military and human aid to Ukraine.

“As a key NATO ally, as an important voice in the United Nations Security Council, we have an extraordinary relation of partnership. Albania also was a temporary member of the UN Security Council. As the Premier already mentioned during the visit with Ambassador Lisa Thompson Grinfilld, we talked about many important issues, especially regarding the co-penholding role for Ukraine, in the wake of the Russian aggression,” Blinken said.

The US Secretary quoted PM Rama’s remarks at the UN, adding that there could be no better and more beautiful way to express the importance of living in peace.

“As you know, Albania has been a very strong supporter of Ukraine since day one. Albania was the first to help Ukraine. It was one of the first countries to deliver military aid to Ukraine after the Russian aggression, providing weapons, ammunition, mine-resistant vehicles. Albania is one of the top ten contributors in terms of income per capita for the aid to Ukraine. In his speech at the UN Security Council last September, the Prime Minister said – Edi, I would like to quote you, if I may – “The struggle of Ukraine is also the struggle of everyone who aspires to live in a world where nations are free and equal, where territorial Integrity is undisputable and their right to live in peace is unquestionable,” Blinken said.
