TIRANA, Feb 1 /ATA/ Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca, announced on Wednesday that the map of agricultural products “Made in Albania” during 2022, marked positive results across all its subsectors.

Referring to the official data of the Ministry of Agriculture, olive production recorded an increase several times higher than other products, by nearly 39% compared to the previous year.

If 110,000 tons of olives were produced in 2021, during the past year, the production of this important crop for the rural economy, said Minister Krifca, reached 152,624 tons.

“Our policies, other than the support for the development of olive production, will address the appropriate orientation for increasing quality and certification in order to access new markets for increasing exports,” said the minister.

According to her, increasing figures of production during 2022 were also recorded by citrus fruits, among which oranges, tangerines, lemons, etc., which mark an increase of 9%, compared to 2021.
Honey production has also increased by 6%, as a result of the increase in the number of beehives and beekeepers over the years, thanks to the subsidy policies through the National Scheme and very quickly also the IPARD III program.

Meanwhile, a more moderate jump in growth was also made by the productions of fruit trees by 5%. Wheat production also increased by 4% as well as viticulture by 3% more not to forget the continuous and stable growth of vegetable crops in greenhouses.
The intensification of the govt. support to subsidize farmers for planting wheat is expected to deliver results during 2023, while the consolidation of the tax-free oil support scheme for agriculture has been reflected in the reduction of costs and the overall increase in local agricultural production.
