TIRANA, May 20 /ATA/ Albania and Switzerland have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of civil protection and building safety through a new project aimed at improving the system for assessing structural damage in the aftermath of natural disasters.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, and the Swiss Ambassador to Albania, Ms Ruth Huber, thereby establishing the framework for the building damage assessment project.

The agreement will be implemented by the Institute of Construction with the support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), in coordination with the National Agency for Civil Protection (AKMC).

The agreement is intended to strengthen the national system for the assessment of building damage, through the unification of technical standards, the provision of professional training, and the enhancement of institutional cooperation in emergency situations.

The agreement further provides for the strengthening of technical capacities and professional expertise, with the objective of enhancing public safety, improving the resilience of buildings, and ensuring more effective response in the aftermath of natural disasters.
