TIRANA, Sept 2 /ATA/ The university campus is full of Afghan refugees who have fled the horrors of war in a troubled Afghanistan and have fould shelter in Albania.

37 Afghan citizens arrived in Albania just before midnight and were accommodated in university campus, in buildings 11 and 12, to be transferred to hotels on the coast.

Under the care of the staff of Tirana municipality and university campus, they proceeded with the registration procedures at the police authorities and received the necessary health services at a makeshift health center set up inside the buildings.

One of them, Nuzeim Mustafa, in an interview with the Albanian Telegraphic Agency, explains the reasons that forced him to flee the country and his life there.

“We fled the Taliban because our lives were in danger in Afghanistan. The Taliban had threatened that they would kill us, so we decided to leave our home country.”

He says that he still does not know how long he will stay in Albania, adding that the final destination will probably be the USA or Canada.

“I do not know exactly, but we will stay here for a while, then maybe we can go to the US or Canada.”
He goes on saying that his parents have remained in Afghanistan and their life is in peril.

“Only my uncle and me managed to come here. Just the three of us. The rest of my family have remained in Afghanistan. My mother and father are there and their life is at risk,” he says.

Nuzeim added that he has tried to raise the voice over the situation in Afghanistan but his plea has fallen on deaf ears.

“The situation there is much worse than anyone can imagine. Because no one feels safe and is sure about building a future there. The education system and anything else have collapsed. Everything was destroyed with the arrival of the Taliban. That is why we are here to ensure a better future elsewhere. I was in the last year of high school when my life was turned upside down. We wanted to help Afghanistan and our people and so we raised our voice, but of no avail. We have raised our voice many times, warning that Afghanistan is in danger, but no one listened to us. “They did not even react to treat us as human beings,” he said.

He also thanks Albania for the hospitality, adding that our country is very beautiful and friendly.
“Gratitude to the Albanian people for their support! “We thank all the countries, but especially Ukraine and Albania that have stood by us and helped us,” he said.
