It was his first public appearance since his arrest in October 2024.

The court postponed the hearing in the case against ex- president Meta, who appeared in the defendants’ enclosure during proceedings at the Special Court against Corruption and Organised Crime.

The session, the first on the merits, involves Meta, his former spouse Monika Kryemadhi, and three other defendants.

Meta called for the trial to be broadcast live, saying he faced an “unequal position”, while his lawyer Kujtim Cakrani criticised the lack of full media access. The court has yet to rule on the request.

The hearing was adjourned to May 11 after one defendant was absent and her lawyers lacked authorisation to represent her.

Prosecutors at Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organised Crime have charged Meta with corruption, money laundering and failure to declare assets. He has been in pre-trial detention since October 2024.
