TIRANA, Sept 13 /ATA/ Minister of Interior, Taulant Balla, and the UK Minister of State for Immigration, Robert Jenrick, visited the “Mother Teresa” airport, to see first-hand the data processing of citizens repatriated from Great Britain.

Since the joint December 2022 communiqué of the prime ministers of the two countries, the United Kingdom and Albania have ramped up the cooperation between them even more.

During this period, the number of Albanian citizens going illegally to the United Kingdom has decreased by 90% compared to the previous year, and there is an increase in the number of Albanian citizens repatriated in compliance with the successful agreement.

Afterwards the two ministers visited the Taskforce, which operates in the premises of the new building of the Rinas Police Station, built in May 2022 through the financing of the British government.

Also, special facilities have been built in Rinas for interviewing returnees, subject to repatriation.
The British side has also assisted the Albanian police with logistical equipment, increasing the processing capacity of the structure.
Minister Balla informed Minister Jenrick on the measures taken by setting up a full-time Joint Task Force for Migration with the participation of State Police structures and British authorities to prevent and combat criminal activities in the field of migration.

This unit carries out the exchange, verification, processing and distribution of information through secure communication mechanisms, related to illegal migration, falsification and fraud with migration-related documents.
The British minister is in Tirana to participate in the Ministerial of Interior Ministers within the framework of the Berlin Process, which will be held on September 14.
