TIRANA, April 18 /ATA/ Protected areas in Albania have become tourist attractions for domestic and foreign visitors with our country offering a year-round tourism.

Albania ranks first in the region for the surface of protected areas. In Albania, protected areas constitute 21% of the territory, or in other words, 1 in every 5 square meters is a protected area.

Prime Minister Edi Rama asked his followers on “Instagram” how many hectares the surface area of protected areas has increased, by 14 thousand ha or 140 thousand ha.

“140 thousand hectares is the surface of protected areas that has been added to the total, putting it at 600 thousand ha and covering 21% of the territory, the highest figure in the region,” Rama said.

The protected natural and tourist areas in our country are considered as protected land and water parts due to the biological diversity of natural and cultural assets they offer. They are divided into 6 categories according to importance with national parks representing the largest part.
