This was an opportunity to discuss the importance of accreditation in ensuring quality, safety and efficiency in all sectors of Aromatic Medicinal Herbs as well as fruits and vegetables.
With the support of SECO (Swiss Expertise Center for Economic Affairs) and GQSP Albania (United Nations Organization for Industrial Development), work continues apace to strengthen the quality infrastructure system.
Promoting the importance of accreditation and especially the importance of having accredited laboratories in Albania focuses on the role of accreditation as critical in increasing food safety and guaranteeing compliance with international standards.

The medicinal and aromatic plant industry, together with fruits and vegetables, have pursued an upward trend in recent years in our country, as far as production and exports are concerned, becoming a source of income for thousands of families.

The increase in exports of these products is one of the priorities in the policies of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, where the accreditation of laboratories that certify their quality is a key factor in the expansion of sales in value-added markets.
Albania is home to hundreds of medicinal and aromatic plants that grow mainly in the mountainous areas of the country, while the field and greenhouse production of vegetables is providing a year-round supply of these products that are also in great demand in international markets.
