TIRANA, March 17 /ATA/ Accommodation establishments registered an increase in visitor numbers during January 2026, thereby reflecting a positive trajectory in tourism activity, even within the off-season period.
According to data published by the Institute of Statistics, in January the number of visitors accommodated in hotels and other tourist facilities increased by 15.1 per cent compared with the same month of the previous year.
The increase was driven by both domestic and foreign visitors. Resident visitors registered a year‑on‑year rise of 16.8 per cent, while non‑resident visitors increased by 13.8 per cent.
Overnight stays in accommodation establishments also recorded an increase. In total, they rose by 9 per cent, with overnight stays by resident visitors increasing by 16.4 per cent, while those by foreign visitors grew by 4.3 per cent compared with January 2025.
With regard to the origin of tourists, the majority of foreign visitors accommodated in the country—representing 25 per cent of the total—came from Italy, followed by Kosovo with 14 per cent and Germany with 6 per cent.
Meanwhile, visitors from the United Kingdom and France accounted for 5 per cent and 4 per cent of the total, respectively. The data also indicate an increase in the utilisation rate of accommodation establishments. The hotel room occupancy rate reached 15.4 per cent in January 2026, compared with 14.5 per cent in the same month of the previous year.
Albania was visited by 12.4 million foreign nationals in 2025.
