TIRANA, Nov 13 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Thursday that Albania has never been as prominent on the international stage as it is now.

In a televised interview, he emphasized that the country’s strong ties with Italy are a testimony to this transformation, highlighting the significance of the first meeting between the two governments, held today in Rome.
“Never before has Albania has been so prominent on the international stage, and the depth of our bilateral relations with Italy reflects this transformation,” stated Prime Minister Rama, emphasizing the Italian Prime Minister’s exceptional commitment to advancing cooperation with and for Albania.
“It was something I felt from our very first meeting, and now it has taken on a much clearer form, especially given her full commitment to the role of President of the Council of Ministers of Italy,” the Prime Minister added.
Regarding Italy’s assumption of the EU Presidency during the first half of 2028, coinciding with Albania’s targeted completion of technical negotiations, Prime Minister Rama described this alignment as exceptionally favorable.

The Prime Minister highlighted the rapid progress of Albania’s EU accession, noting that while Montenegro took years to open its chapters, Albania has completed most within just 12 months, with the remaining chapters set to open in the coming days.

“Prime Minister Edi Rama described the current momentum in Albania’s EU accession talks as an unprecedented acceleration. He noted that if negotiations are successfully concluded by 2027, Italy—particularly under its current Prime Minister—will play a decisive role during the first six months of its EU Council presidency.”
