TIRANA, Oct 14 /ATA/ The European Commission and the Albanian delegation chaired by the Deputy Minister of Finance and Economy, Olta Manjani, held the explanatory meeting for Chapter 2 “Free Movement of Workers” in Brussels.

Free movement of workers is one of the fundamental freedoms enshrined in the European Union law.

Deputy Minister Manjani said that Albania has taken concrete steps towards the free movement of workers by aligning the national legal framework with the EU acquis, to promote free movement of workers and the exchange of information on employment opportunities.

The acquis, according to this chapter, provides that EU citizens of a member state have the right to work in another member state. At the same time, EU migrant workers should be treated in the same way as local workers in terms of working conditions, social and tax advantages.

The acquis also includes a mechanism to coordinate national social security provisions for insured persons and their family members who move to another member state.
