TIRANA, Jan 7 /ATA/ – The Finance Ministry sold 1.73 billion leks worth of 20-year Treasury bonds at a yield of 6.72% at an auction on Tuesday, down from 6.88% at the previous auction in September last year, the Bank of Albania said on Wednesday.

The lower yield was driven mainly by strong investor demand, with total bids for the long-term government securities reaching 2.92 billion leks, the central bank said.

The 20-year T-bonds are the longest-maturity debt instruments currently available in the domestic financial market and are seen as particularly attractive to institutional investors.

The Bank of Albania held its first auction of 20-year bonds in early 2025, with the instrument drawing strong interest and prompting three further auctions during the year.

Government borrowing in the domestic market is expected to rise slightly in the first quarter, according to the Finance Ministry’s issuance calendar. Planned borrowing is set at 134 billion leks, up 1.1% from the same period a year earlier.
