TIRANA, April 22 /ATA/ -By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama, also the Socialist Party chairman, held a meeting in Përmet with tour operators and businesses from both Përmet and Gjirokastra, where he highlighted the progress made in the tourism sector in recent years.

“In Gjirokastra, until recently, accommodation options were as few as the fingers on one hand. A few places barely stayed afloat thanks to great sacrifices, not to mention Përmet, which was entirely neglected and abandoned,” said Rama.
Rama also noted that 150,000 tourists in Përmet is now considered normal, and he believes the focus should be on strategies to increase that number even further.
The Prime Minister emphasized that 2024 saw 600,000 tourists in Gjirokastra alone.

“Last night, Qafa e Pazarit was brimming with foreign tourists. They are all consumers because they pay,” he said.

Rama also stated that there was no such thing as agritourism in Albania.

“Many people had a hard time dealing with agriculture. Agritourism has completely changed the game for those who understand how simple it is. By opening a door at the top of the mountain, you bring the market to your doorstep, and there’s no need to produce for the agricultural market; instead, you produce for your own agritourism,” he added.

Focusing on infrastructure, Rama said that the approach to road investments has been reimagined to create opportunities and turbo-charge the economy.
“We will continue to support farmers, agricultural workers, and those engaged in similar activities, as there is still an extraordinary potential for development,” added Rama. /j.p/sm/

TIRANA, July 17 /ATA/ – Albania’s exports of agricultural goods grew both in terms of quantity and their value during 2022, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development said on Sunday.

During a meeting with local farmers in the village of Barbullinje, Lushnje, the Minister of Agriculturesaid that exports of the agricultural goods rose by 24% in terms of their volume and by around 25.5% in terms of value during this tough year when costs have soared because of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“At meeting with local farmers, representatives of food processing companies and exporters we discussed performance and results of agriculture in the first six months, agricultural exports, challenges, the government subsidies and support, collaboration, preventive measures and the pesticides control campaign we have already launched, and ways to deliver more in terms of enhancing effectiveness and strengthen sector of agriculture,” Krifca said via a post on social networks.

Albania exports its agricultural products to over 70 countries across the world, mainly to the EU member states and the countries in the region, but Albanian agricultural products have also gained access to the Middle East markets.

In addition to the tax-free oil and agriculture subsidies, the government is seeking to offer more incentives and support farmers in order to reduce cost.

The Ministry of Agriculture says that around 20,000 farmers across the country benefit tax-free oil, while the national strategy is being reviewed in a bid to help agriculture sector grow further.
