PM Rama to attend Euronews Enlargement Summit in Brussels

TIRANA, Nov. 3 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama is visiting Brussels on Tuesday to attend the Euronews Enlargement Summit 2026, a high-level forum focusing on European Union enlargement and the EU membership prospects of candidate countries.

On the sidelines of the summit, Rama is scheduled to speak with Euronews journalists about Albania’s progress towards EU membership, as technical work and meetings continue on the provisional closure of further negotiating clusters.

Albania has made progress in its EU accession negotiations following the opening of all six negotiating clusters, covering the bloc’s 33 chapters of the acquis. The country has now entered the phase of gradually provisionally closing the chapters.

At the latest intergovernmental conference, held on Oct. 13, 2026, Albania and the European Union provisionally closed negotiations on Chapter 20, covering Enterprise and Industrial Policy.

Four chapters have so far been provisionally closed, while work continues to meet EU criteria and standards, particularly in the areas of the rule of law, the functioning of democratic institutions and public administration.

The Euronews summit is taking place at a significant juncture for the EU’s enlargement policy, which is gaining renewed importance amid geopolitical shifts, security challenges and growing economic competition.

Discussions are expected to focus on the progress made by candidate countries, the reforms required for accession, institutional commitments and the implications of enlargement for Europe’s security, democracy and competitiveness.
