TIRANA, Nov 2 /ATA/ Classes resumed as scheduled today at public universities across Albania, including the University of Medicine, the Faculties of Law, History and Philology, Economics, and the Polytechnic University.
Students’ return to lecture halls marked the end of a nearly two-week boycott, following a decision reached through discussions in student groups. They opted to resume lessons, citing concerns that further missed classes would affect their studies.
Shouting slogans including “Boycott classes” and “Join the protest”, the students moved through classrooms at the Faculty of Economics, the Faculties of History and Philology and Law, as well as other university departments, calling on their peers to boycott classes and join the ongoing demonstrations.
The group of students also marched to the Faculty of Natural Sciences, where they entered the premises and called on students to boycott classes, as shown in photographs and footage captured by the Albanian Telegraphic Agency’s photojournalist.
Meanwhile, classes continued as normal at universities across the country, including in Korçë, Shkodër, Vlorë, Elbasan and Gjirokastër.
The Korçë Student Council announced on Friday that all students would return to classes starting Monday.
In a statement to students, the Council said the decision to resume classes came after tensions surrounding the reported incidents of violence had subsided and students’ concerns had been taken into consideration.
It also noted that participation in the boycott had not been unanimous, with some students continuing to attend lectures throughout the protest.
