TIRANA, Oct 30 /ATA/ – The government plans to introduce extended school hours until 5 p.m. from the next school year, backed by dedicated funding, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Friday.
Rama said the initiative would be accompanied by a broader range of social, cultural and extracurricular activities for children, extending beyond sports to include theatre, painting, crafts, film and photography.
“From the next academic year, we intend to introduce extended school hours, with a dedicated budget. The initiative will allow parents to continue working while children remain in a structured and supervised school environment until 5 p.m.,” Rama said.
He said the government aimed to work with institutions and civil society organisations to expand opportunities for children’s social and cultural development.
“We need to create conditions for children to have a more structured day, with more activities and opportunities to learn and develop after regular classes,” he added.
