TIRANA, Oct. 18 /ATA/ – A total of 28 people injured during protests in Tirana received medical treatment on Sunday, Albania’s Ministry of Health and Social Welfare said.

In an update issued at 9 p.m., the ministry said 23 people had been treated at the University Trauma Hospital: 17 police officers, one underage protester, one media representative and four passers-by.

One police officer remained in the hospital’s emergency department, while the media representative was admitted for further examinations and was in good condition, the ministry said.

Since Oct. 13, a total of 14 people have been hospitalised and remain under treatment: five police officers, four protesters, four passers-by and one media representative, it added.

A further five injured people – two police officers and three protesters – sought treatment at the Mother Teresa University Hospital Centre.

One police officer remained in the emergency department, while the others were discharged after receiving medical advice, according to the ministry.

The ministry thanked doctors, nurses and medical teams for providing care to those injured, saying it remained committed to protecting public health and saving lives while ensuring medical assistance for everyone without discrimination.
