120 personnel deployed to contain Bukanik Mountain fire

TIRANA, Oct 4 /ATA/ The Elbasan Municipality said efforts to extinguish and contain the fire on Bukanik Mountain are ongoing, with around 120 personnel deployed on the ground. Those involved include staff from the Elbasan Civil Emergencies service, Civil Emergencies authorities and the Armed Forces.

Elbasan Mayor Gledian Llatja is at the scene, where he is monitoring the situation and the ongoing efforts to contain and put out the flames.

Difficult terrain, dense vegetation and overnight winds have helped the fire spread and complicated firefighting efforts. The blaze is currently at a low intensity and poses no threat to nearby populated areas.

Firefighting vehicles from Elbasan are taking part in the operation, while 30 Armed Forces personnel and an army helicopter have been providing additional support for the past two days.

Mayor Llatja thanked all the structures involved in managing the situation and urged residents to exercise caution and avoid approaching areas affected by the fire.

Teams on the ground continue to work and monitor the fire perimeter, with the aim of fully extinguishing the remaining hotspots and preventing the fire from spreading.
