TIRANA, Oct 2 /ATA/ Lezhë Mayor Pjerin Ndreu today called on residents of Lezhë and neighbouring areas to remain vigilant following a series of fires in recent days.
Yesterday, emergency crews brought a fire in the village of Piraj, Lezhë, under control after around five hours of operations. The blaze affected a sizeable area of the village and destroyed two unoccupied houses.
Just hours after the fire in the village of Piraj in Lezhë was brought under control, another blaze broke out yesterday evening on Mount Manati, near the Lezhë–Milot national road.
Against the backdrop of these incidents, Ndreu said in a social media post that authorities had faced particularly dramatic situations yesterday as fires swept through Piraj, Barbullojë and Manati.
“With no rainfall for more than three months, vegetation is extremely dry and the wind is helping the flames spread, meaning that a single spark can trigger a disaster. Starting fires in scrubland, fields, rubbish or open areas, whether deliberately or through carelessness, can put homes, property and, above all, human lives at risk,” Ndreu stressed.
Ndreu urged residents not to start fires.
“Under these conditions, any irresponsible behaviour can have very serious consequences. When flames spread rapidly, bringing them under control becomes extremely difficult, while protecting homes presents a major challenge,” Ndreu said.
Mayor Ndreu called for the cooperation and responsible behaviour of every resident.
“Prevention is the best protection. A moment of carelessness can lead to a major disaster. Let us work together to protect our people, homes and territory,” Ndreu said.
