TIRANA, September 29 /ATA/ –Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha participated today in a high-level meeting in Vienna of ministers for European affairs from the Slavkov format countries—Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia—and the Western Balkan nations.
The meeting, organized by Austria’s Federal Minister for Europe, Integration, and the Family Claudia Bauer, focused on the progress of the European Union enlargement process and the enhance of cooperation with candidate countries.
In his remarks, Hoxha emphasized that enlargement must remain a credible, merit-based process that delivers tangible benefits to citizens at every stage.
Addressing Albania’s priorities, he underscored the need for clearer and more compelling communication regarding European integration—communication that brings the EU closer to citizens and explains the opportunities the process creates. He paid special attention to the younger generation, noting that they should feel a sense of belonging to the European family even prior to actual membership.
In this regard, the minister stressed that gradual integration should yield concrete opportunities and benefits well before accession. He also called for expanding the participation of candidate countries in the work of EU institutions, in order to prepare them to contribute effectively from the very first day of membership.
Referring to today’s strategic challenges, Hoxha emphasized that enlargement goes beyond a mere political choice.
“It is a geopolitical imperative and a vital investment in Europe’s peace, security, stability, competitiveness and resilience,” he stated.
The minister reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to continue reforms and advancing toward membership through concrete results.
“We will continue to deliver results, progress based on merit and cooperate closely with our partners toward a stronger, more united and more secure Europe,” said Minister Hoxha.
