TIRANA, Sept 28 /ATA/ President of the Republic Bajram Begaj on Monday convened the National Security Council to review latest developments and their impact on the functioning of security institutions. The President’s office announced that, alongside the members stipulated by law, the Prosecutor General’s Office and SPAK were also invited to take part in the meeting.
In its media statement, the President’s office said the National Security Council discussed the situation and the measures institutions should take to strengthen inter‑institutional cooperation, collaboration with partners and allies, and public trust. The meeting concluded that, in safeguarding national security, institutions do not compete with one another; they carry different responsibilities but serve the same interest — the security of the Republic of Albania.
Same sources emphasised that institutional mistrust must be replaced by cooperation, coordination and professional communication. It underlined that judicial investigations should be conducted independently and respected by all, while individual cases must not be allowed to trigger crises of confidence in the state or its security institutions.
Institutions must demonstrate to citizens that the system is capable of correcting itself and safeguarding the public interest. The President’s office stressed that the task ahead is to strengthen standards, oversight, transparency, accountability and inter‑institutional cooperation.
Albania has institutions, international partners and allies, as well as professionals and capacities. The President’s office said the country’s institutions must work together to strengthen the state, safeguard national security and build citizens’ trust.
The National Security Council does not take decisions. It is an advisory body to the President of the Republic, supporting him in the exercise of constitutional and legal powers. Its meetings are held behind closed doors.
