Rama: Albania is not turning back; no one will stop us

TIRANA, September 27 /ATA/ – Upon returning from the United States, Prime Minister Edi Rama made a statement to the media at “Mother Teresa” International Airport, emphasizing that, “Albania is not turning back. No one and nothing will stop it—will stop us—or will stop me.”

First of all, Rama addressed the issue regarding the former director of SHISH (State Intelligence Service) Vlora Hyseni stating that her appointment to lead the service was based on her experience as an advisor to security institutions and on positive references from partner agencies.

PM Rama stressed that Hyseni’s investigation is entirely a legal matter between her and the justice system. We do not support public trials or the leaking of confidential investigative information before a verdict is reached.

“The prosecution has a duty to investigate; the court has a duty to adjudicate; and the media has a duty to uncover the truth and hold power to account. Yet, no one has the right to pronounce someone guilty before a trial, let alone strip them of their human dignity in the court of public opinion,” stated Rama.
Further on, Rama said that, “The arrest of Hyseni proves our absolute commitment to fighting corruption. We stand firmly behind the government’s reforms and are fully prepared to bear the political costs of independent judicial decisions.”
