TIRANA, Sept 24 /ATA/ Albania’s parliament has cut short its plenary session after opposition lawmakers blocked the rostrum for the fourth consecutive time.
The opposition argued that the session should focus solely on the case of Vlora Hyseni, former head of the State Intelligence Service, placed under house arrest, who is suspected of leaking information related to an ongoing investigation and aiding the alleged perpetrator.
“On behalf of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, and after four attempts by the Speaker to restore order, this session can no longer continue. In these circumstances, I propose that we proceed directly to the vote,” MP Erion Malaj said.
The bill “On the participation of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania in the military operation of the International Stabilisation Force in Gaza” was approved with 106 votes in favour.
The bill on amendments to the law governing the takeover of companies through public offers was approved with 75 votes in favour, one abstention and no votes against.
Opposition lawmakers protested during the vote, banging on their desks and calling for an “end to the narco-state”.
