TIRANA, Sept. 21 /ATA/ – Strengthening customs cooperation and facilitating trade through modern border management were the focus of the first day of a workshop in the port city of Durrës bringing together Albania’s and Kosovo’s customs administrations.
Albanian Customs Director General Besmir Beja said the event was being held with support from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) and experts from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Discussions focused on pre-arrival processing, risk management, information sharing and coordination between the two customs administrations, with the aim of improving procedures and facilitating the movement of goods between Albania and Kosovo.
CBP experts shared U.S. experience and practices in pre-arrival processing, risk-based customs clearance, inter-agency coordination and the use of electronic information in decision-making.
The workshop also addressed the digitalisation of customs procedures and the Customs Single Window, including ways to improve data exchange, reduce duplicate procedures and strengthen coordination among border and regulatory authorities.
The workshop aims to contribute to the modernisation of border management and create more efficient procedures for the movement of goods between Albania and Kosovo.
