Citizens continue protests in Tirana

TIRANA, September 15 /ATA/ – Citizens gathered again today in Skanderbeg square for the 108th protest against the planned tourism investment in Zvërnec area.

After gathering in the capital’s center, protesters marched along the boulevard toward the Prime Minister’s Office, opposing the project and voicing demands regarding policies on protected areas and strategic investments.

During speeches delivered in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, the protesters addressed SPAK (Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime), calling for judicial action.

Activist Arben Kola called for the protests to continue. In his remarks, Kola demanded the arrest of high-ranking officials, urging the Special Prosecution (SPAK) to proceed with investigations and arrests.

“We call on SPAK: continue with the arrests. It is the only institution capable of liberating Albania from the grip of the anti-Albanian mafia,” he said.

One of the protesters highlighted the issue of agricultural funding. According to her, the agricultural sector has received no aid from the European Union for three years due to the “theft of funds.”

Following the speeches, the protesters held their nightly march along the streets of Tirana.

The protests began on May 31, initially as a reaction to the planned tourism investment project in Zvërnec. Subsequently, the organizers articulated broader political demands as well, ranging from the ousting of the political class to calls for the cancellation of the “Mountains Package,” the repeal of amendments to the Law on Protected Areas and more. /p.s./
