TIRANA, September 14 /ATA/ The citizens’ protest against the investment project in Zvërnec continues, marking its 107th day today.
Protesters gathered in “Skanderbeg” square and later marched to the Prime Minister’s Office to deliver speeches.
During the rally, protesters condemned the political class and called on SPAK (the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and Organized Crime) to take immediate legal action.
The protesters issued a statement regarding what they described as “police violence” against them.
Activist Luçiana Kokaj stated that the police intervention constituted an abuse of authority and affirmed that the protest would continue despite pressure from law enforcement.
“Today, protesters faced police violence and repression, just as in Zvërnec. This violence cannot be ignored; it must be strongly condemned—not only for the abuse of authority, but also because it is being used to intimidate citizens,” Kokaj said.
She emphasized that the protesters would remain in the square, describing civic unity as their source of strength.
Following the speeches, the protesters continued with their nightly march through the streets of the capital.
The protest began on May 31, initially as a reaction to the planned tourism investment project in Zvërnec. Subsequently, the organizers articulated broader political demands as well, ranging from the ousting of the political class to calls for measures such as the cancellation of the “Mountains Package” and the repeal of amendments to the Law on Protected Areas. /p.s./
