Albania protest over Zvërnec project marks 106th day in Tirana

TIRANA, Sept 13 /ATA/ Citizens continued their protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office against the planned tourism investment in Zvërnec and the government, now in its 106th day. Demonstrators gathered in Skanderbeg Square before marching along the boulevard to the Prime Minister’s building, where speeches were delivered and political demands repeated, including the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and his cabinet.

During the rally in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, demonstrators chanted slogans such as “Albania demands revolution,” “Your time is up,” and “Rama resign.” One protester said the continuation of the movement after 106 days showed, in his view, that it had not been extinguished.

Speaking during the rally before the Prime Minister’s Office, one demonstrator said: “No one imagined that even after 106 days we would still be thousands in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, facing Rama and his corrupt government.” He accused the authorities of relying on what he described as “the economic power of the oligarchy, patronage networks, the administration and criminal gangs” to maintain control.

The protest that began on 31 May against the planned tourism investment in Zvërnec continued outside the Prime Minister’s Office in Tirana, marking its 106th day. Organisers have since expanded their demands to wider political and institutional issues, raising concerns over corruption, employment and the exodus of young people. After speeches, demonstrators marched through the streets of the capital, repeating calls for unity and vowing to continue until their demands are met.
