TIRANA, Sept. 12 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday shared footage from a mass rally in Prishtina in support of four former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders facing trial in The Hague, accompanying his post with the message: “Freedom has a name.”
The “March for Freedom”, organised by the civic movement “Liria ka Emër” (Freedom Has a Name), is being held in support of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi, who are being tried by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
The rally comes four days before the scheduled verdict in the case. The Specialist Chambers have set Sept. 16 for the ruling after the conclusion of the trial, which has lasted more than three years.
Political party representatives, Kosovo war veterans and relatives of the four former KLA leaders are among those attending. The programme includes speeches by Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) leader Bedri Hamza and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) leader Ardian Gjini, as well as representatives of “Liria ka Emër,” war veterans’ associations and families of those killed in the war. Patriotic songs are also being performed.
The march takes place as the trial of Thaçi, Veseli, Selimi and Krasniqi enters its final stage. The four defendants face charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, which they have denied.
