TIRANA, Sept. 10 /ATA/ – Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Albania rose sharply in the first half of 2026, reaching 1.144 billion euros, up 50% from the same period a year earlier, Bank of Albania balance of payments data showed.
FDI inflows reached 741 million euros in the second quarter alone, an 86% increase from the same quarter of 2025.
The strong growth reflects increased foreign capital flows and rising investor interest in the Albanian market.
Real estate continues to account for a significant share of foreign investment and has emerged in recent years as one of the main destinations for foreign capital. The stock of foreign investment in real estate reached 2.63 billion euros at the end of 2025, up 29% year-on-year, according to the central bank.
Real estate also remained the largest component of FDI in 2026, for the fifth consecutive year, particularly attracting investment in areas with strong tourism and economic potential.
FDI is considered important for Albania’s economy as it brings in capital, supports business activity and sectoral development, creates employment opportunities and strengthens foreign-currency inflows. It also helps finance the economy’s foreign-currency needs and offset the current-account deficit.
The 50% increase in FDI in the first six months of 2026 points to a significant intensification of foreign capital flows into Albania and growing investor interest in the domestic economy.
