Education Minister: “After School” programme to expand to more than 400 schools across Albania

TIRANA, Aug 27 /ATA/ – “After School” programme will expand to more than 400 educational institutions across Albania in the 2026-27 academic year, Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro said on Thursday.

Kumbaro made the remarks at a meeting with education officials to review preparations for the new school year, which begins on September 14.

The programme will offer students activities beyond regular classes, including social, artistic, sporting and handicraft activities, in cooperation with local communities.

“We are putting the finishing touches to the ‘After School’ programme, which will be expanded to more than 400 institutions, offering not simply time spent at school after classes, but quality time filled with activities,” Kumbaro said.

Preparations also include the rollout of new curricula for grades 1, 6 and 10, the distribution of free new textbooks for grades 1-5, school safety measures and enforcement of the ban on mobile phones in schools.

The Ministry is also expanding the SMIP education platform to include the “After School” programme.

Forty-two new educational facilities and sports grounds equipped with modern teaching facilities will open for the new school year.

The second phase of registrations for first- and 10th-grade students began on August 24 and runs until September 7.
