Abdixhiku after meeting Kurti: Step forward on Kosovo’s presidency talks

PRISTINA, Aug 26  /ATA/ Following tonight’s meeting with Albin Kurti, leader of Vetëvendosje, LDK chairman Lumir Abdixhiku stated that discussions on the president had moved into a more concrete phase, confirming that specific names were now being considered. ‘As we mentioned previously, after agreeing on the principles for the future president of the Republic of Kosovo, today we continued with discussions on concrete names,’ Abdixhiku said.

He noted that, overall, the names presented were largely in line with the principles agreed upon so far, though some more closely than others.

In this regard, we can say it is a step forward, since we have moved from political concepts and principles to actual names. Due to the sensitivity of the process, however, I cannot make the names discussed public.

He announced that another meeting would be held to finalize the process. ‘Given the sensitivity of the matter, I ask for your understanding—I cannot discuss specific names at this stage. However, we will meet again to conclude the process and elect the next president of the Republic of Kosovo,’ Abdixhiku said.

“He did not provide details on the number of meetings or names discussed, emphasizing instead that the focus remains on reaching an agreement that will bring stability to the country. ‘I do not speak in numbers—how many there have been or how many there will be—but we are working toward stability for the Republic of Kosovo. We understand that Kosovo has many voices for destabilization and very few reasonable voices for stability, and we want to be the voice of reason for that stability. The next president must be a figure who enjoys public trust and fits the institutional and state responsibilities carried by this office,’ Abdixhiku added./KosovaPress/sm/
