Total of 410 million euros in liabilities written off for 204,413 taxpayers

TIRANA, Aug. 18 /ATA/ – More than 204,000 Albanian taxpayers have benefited from the government’s tax debt write-off programme, with liabilities worth a total of 410 million euros written off or extinguished as of July 31, 2026, the General Directorate of Taxes said on Tuesday.

A total of 204,413 taxpayers had been included in the programme by the end of July, with the process continuing automatically for eligible beneficiaries in line with legislation governing the write-off, cancellation and payment of tax and customs liabilities.

The tax administration said it was continuing procedures for all taxpayers who meet the legal criteria.

The debt relief programme will remain in effect until Dec. 31, 2026, when the statutory deadline expires, the tax authority said.

The measures are intended to ease the burden of accumulated tax liabilities on eligible businesses and individuals and reduce the stock of outstanding tax debt as part of the government’s broader effort to clear legacy liabilities.
