Tirana sees 78th consecutive protest over Zvërnec project

TIRANA, Aug 16  /ATA/ Citizens gathered again today in Skënderbej Square for the 78th protest against the planned tourism development in the Zvërnec area.

After assembling in the capital’s centre, protesters marched along the boulevard towards the Prime Minister’s Office, opposing the project and also raising demands related to policies on protected areas and strategic investments.

Carrying banners and national flags, the protesters called for the repeal of amendments to the law on protected areas, changes to the electoral law, and the removal of what they described as the “old political establishment.”

Since Aug. 14, Albanians from different countries have joined the protesters in Tirana, giving the movement a new dimension and greater scale.

“For 36 years on end we have not had a government in service of the people. We will not stop until this political establishment is brought down,” one protester said.

Protesters accused the government and political establishment of damaging Albania, driving young people abroad and failing pensioners, while calling for greater involvement from the diaspora and insisting they would continue the protests until the government and political class were removed.
