Tirana Sees 75th day of protests against Zvërnec tourism project

TIRANA, August 13 /ATA/ Marking its 75th consecutive day, Tirana’s anti-government protest continued today as demonstrators gathered in Skanderbeg Square and marched down Martyrs of Nation boulevard to the Prime Minister’s Office. What began as local opposition to the Zvërnec development has broadened into a wider revolt demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and a policy overhaul on protected areas.

As a mother and citizen, I protest today’s high cost of living and low wages. We raised our children with good values, but we must also teach them to hold those in power accountable. It is time for all parents to stand up and demand a better future, said one protester.

As an Albanian from the diaspora, I returned home to protest. The Prime Minister claims we produce cars for our military, but those vehicles are useless when our national defense is this weak. We lack a strong army, and building cars does not fix that, said another protester.

Holding national flags and signs, the protesters demanded an end to the old political class, a new electoral law, and the repeal of changes to protected area laws.
