TIRANA, Aug. 9 /ATA/ – Hundreds of protesters gathered in central Tirana on Sunday evening for the 71st consecutive day of demonstrations against a planned project in the coastal area of Zvërnec, southern Albania, calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and his government.
Demonstrators marched from Skanderbeg Square towards the Prime Minister’s office, carrying national flags and banners and demanding changes to legislation on protected areas and elections, as well as the removal of what they called the country’s “old political establishment.”
Speakers at the protest also called for a transitional government, constitutional changes and the repeal of laws on protected areas and strategic investments.
Protesters cited economic and social difficulties, healthcare problems and a lack of opportunities for young people.
One speaker called for wider mobilisation, urging the diaspora and citizens across Albania to join demonstrations planned for Aug. 14-16.
After speeches outside the Prime Minister’s office, protesters continued marching through the streets of Tirana.
