More than 280 personnel battle wildfire on Albania’s Mount Kruja

TIRANA, Aug. 9 /ATA/ – More than 280 emergency workers, military personnel and firefighters were deployed overnight to contain a wildfire on Mount Kruja in central Albania, authorities said on Sunday.

The operation to isolate and bring the fire under control continued throughout the night, with civil emergency services and the armed forces working continuously to prevent the flames from spreading.

Defence Minister Ermal Nufi and Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari monitored the situation and coordinated the deployment of the armed forces, fire and rescue services and other emergency structures.

More than 200 personnel from the civil emergency services and armed forces, along with 80 firefighters and rescue workers, were involved in the operation.

The response included 21 firefighting vehicles, three helicopters, a Bayraktar TB2 drone, two thermal-imaging drones operated by Albania’s National Civil Protection Agency and ambulances.

The agency’s mobile operational centre was deployed in the area to coordinate and monitor the response. The most difficult situation was reported in the Barabit and Lluban areas, where residents were ordered to evacuate.

Authorities said all emergency structures remain fully mobilised and continue operations in close coordination, while the situation is being monitored continuously from the ground and from the air.
