TIRANA, August 2 /ATA/ Protesters marched from Skanderbeg Square to the Prime Minister’s Office this Sunday, demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation, an end to the old political class, and election reform. For the 64th consecutive day, demonstrators also protested a planned tourist project in Zvërnec and called for the repeal of changes to the protected areas law.
“We want Rama to resign as soon as possible,” a female protester said. “Pensions are too low, and prices are too high”.
Referring to the proposed administrative-territorial changes, a young man urged the public not to ignore the issue just because their local area is safe for now. “Today the protest is here, and yesterday it was in Poliçan,” he said. “But remember, the municipalities they are merging today could be your property and your future tomorrow. Don’t stay silent—come out and protest.”
The protesters presented five core demands: the prime minister’s resignation, the repeal of controversial development and environmental laws, and a strict two-term lifetime limit for the office of prime minister.
