TIRANA, July 23 /ATA/ Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha has called for Parliament to be dissolved, saying that this is the only responsible course of action in the current political climate.
Ahead of the plenary session, Berisha stated that Parliament was operating under heightened security measures and argued that it should take a decision to open the way for a new political solution.
“Parliament is meeting under siege! Its only responsible act is to declare its end, its dissolution, and to pave the way for the election demanded by the entire Albanian youth and citizens,” Berisha said.
The leader of the Democratic Party said that any other decision taken by Parliament would be worthless, reiterating his call for the institution to be dissolved.
“Any other act is completely worthless. That is why we are demanding today the dissolution of this Parliament. I repeat, this is the only right decision that Parliament can take today,” Berisha declared.
His comments came as a tense protest was unfolding outside the building, with clashes reported between demonstrators and police forces.
