TIRANA, July 18 /ATA/ – Civil society activists and citizens staged a protest in Tirana on Saturday evening for the 49th consecutive day against a planned tourism development in the coastal area of Zvërnec, while reiterating broader political demands directed at the government.
As on previous days, demonstrators gathered in Skanderbeg Square before marching along the Martyrs of the Nation Boulevard to the Prime Minister’s Office.
Protesters called for Prime Minister Edi Rama and what they described as Albania’s political establishment to step down, while also renewing demands for changes to the electoral system and the repeal of amendments to the law on protected areas.
Protesters also called for the resignation of opposition Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha, accusing him of failing to provide an effective alternative to the government.
Organisers said the daily demonstrations would continue until their demands are met.
