Opposition lawmakers boycott parliament session

TIRANA, July 13  /ATA/ Parliament is holding a public session on Monday to review and adopt ten draft resolutions evaluating the performance of independent institutions in 2025.

As it had announced earlier, the Democratic Party boycotted the plenary session, calling on Parliament to review the legal changes requested by protesters.

Lawmakers from the “Mundësia” and “Lëvizja Bashkë” parties did not join the boycott of today’s session.

A few days ago, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha said that the opposition had not boycotted parliament, but had decided not to attend plenary sessions until the amendments proposed by Democratic lawmakers were placed on the agenda. According to him, the amendments reflect the protesters’ five demands.

The opposition says Parliament should table and debate the proposals as the bare minimum owed to the public.
