Rama: MEPs and Socialist Party voted for Albania, opposition walked out for a photo protest

TIRANA, July 9 /ATA/ Today in Strasbourg, during the meeting of the Albania–European Union Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee, Socialist Party MPs together with all Members of the European Parliament voted in favor of recommendations supporting Albania’s accession to the EU.

Prime Minister Edi Rama reacted after the vote, emphasizing that ‘all Members of the European Parliament — including some who had previously come to protest in Albania — voted in favor of Albania alongside the Socialist Party MPs. Because Albania does not stop!’”

According to the Prime Minister, opposition representatives acted differently, voting against and then leaving to stage a photo protest. ‘Meanwhile, the minority MPs in Albania voted against and left to pose for a photo protest. Because the Socialist Party does not stop,’ Rama wrote.

Today, the Socialist Party announced that a number of amendments proposed by the Democratic Party were supported and voted for by Socialist representatives as well — precisely in the spirit of consensus that should characterize such an important process as Albania’s accession to the European Union.
