Democratic Party boycotts parliament over protesters’ demands

TIRANA, July 2 /ATA/ The Democratic Party announced it will not participate in today’s parliamentary session, stating that it will boycott proceedings as long as the demands of the protesters are not addressed.

The Democratic Party’s parliamentary group strongly criticized the governing majority, claiming it is blocking the opposition from fulfilling its constitutional duties and representing citizens effectively.

It said that the majority used its parliamentary votes to reject calls for the Prime Minister’s accountability and to prevent a parliamentary debate on the protesters’ demands, as well as on the conclusions and recommendations of a recent European Parliament resolution.

The Democratic Party stated that, as part of this obstructive approach, the majority approved the parliamentary agenda for the remainder of the session during yesterday’s Conference of Chairs meeting, but did not set a date for discussing four draft laws submitted by the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group about a month ago.
