PM Rama: EU integration is Albania’s historic challenge and major opportunity

TIRANA, June 7  /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said that Albania’s main challenge remains integration into the European Union and elevating the country to a new level of economic and social development.

Speaking at an event marking the 35th anniversary of the Socialist Party in Elbasan, Rama stressed that Albania is closer than ever to achieving this historic goal.

Rama urged Albania to make the most of its current opportunity, warning against repeating past mistakes of lost chances and stagnation. He said the country is now closer than ever to achieving its long-standing goal of European Union integration.

The Prime Minister said Albania is closer than ever to fulfilling a centuries-old dream, emphasizing its orientation toward Europe and Western values.

He also noted that EU integration is not only a political goal, but also a deep transformation of Albanian society and the economy.

He said the legacy of the Albanian Renaissance figures is now in their hands, adding that today’s generations have both a historical duty and a real opportunity to advance that vision.

According to him, Albania is at a moment where it can make a significant leap in its development and move closer to European standards.

Rama praised the Socialist Party’s history and its members’ contributions, highlighting the importance of Albania moving down the EU integration path. He also thanked attendees for their warm welcome, honored those awarded, and paid tribute to Qazim Sejdini, recognizing his role in the party’s development in Elbasan.

Rama said the Socialist Party’s journey has not been easy, stressing that it has faced many challenges and costs in the past.

He noted that it is difficult for younger generations today to fully understand the conditions and struggles of the early years of the party’s formation and consolidation.

He added that in the early years of political pluralism, being a member of the Socialist Party often came with significant personal, family, and professional costs, with many supporters facing hardship, including restrictions on employment due to their political convictions.

Rama emphasized that Albania is at a decisive moment and must no longer miss historic opportunities.
