Berisha says DP will implement all international recommendations on electoral reform

TIRANA, May 20 /ATA/ The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, stated on Wednesday that his party will implement all recommendations issued by international institutions within the remit of the Electoral Reform Committee.

At the meeting of the Democratic Party’s parliamentary group, Berisha praised the Members of Parliament serving on the reform committees — both territorial and electoral — for the diligence with which they are conducting their work. He emphasised that these two areas constitute fundamental domains of policy, bearing significant importance for the present and future of the nation.

“You have witnessed how the elections of 11 May have already been criticized in all international reports as elections conducted under the conditions of a party-state. Anyone who claims otherwise is misleading. Under a party-state there can be no genuine elections — only a sham. The tired propaganda, the paid campaigns, and the lobbying funded by Rama have come to an end. The international community and its institutions now speak with one voice: Albania is operating under the conditions of a party-state,” Berisha said.

According to him, this has been achieved thanks to the excellent and honourable work of representatives from the international institutions — the OSCE/ODIHR, the European Parliament, and the Council of Europe — who, in their observation of the elections in Albania, presented their findings with great accuracy and integrity before European and global public opinion.

He further observed that this outcome has also been secured through the steadfast commitment of the Democrats — the members, supporters, and leadership of the Democratic Party — who spared no effort in bringing forward the facts and the irrefutable evidence of the widespread and systematic breaches of international standards and of the nation’s electoral law.”

Berisha noted that the Reform Commission is presently engaged on the basis of exemplary documentation and the recommendations of international institutions. He declared: ‘We are prepared to implement their recommendations in full, one by one. We are profoundly grateful for their fair determinations, without which it would not have been possible to address the major challenges posed by the electoral charade in Albania.’
