TIRANA, May 19/ATA/ Addressing the dramatic situation of the domestic economy, Chairman of the Democratic Party Sali Berisha noted that the cost of living for Albanians has surged by 60% over the past four years, causing a severe squeeze on household budgets.
During a press conference, Berisha condemned the government for Albania’s skyrocketing fuel prices, which now rank among the highest globally. He described the ongoing daily price increases as “crazy” and accused the administration of governing through nothing but the outright theft of public money.
According to him, Public project completion rates hover around 5 to 8%, with the remainder abandoned and funds frequently misappropriated.
“Corruption in Albania’s tenders has hit €1.2 billion a year—more than the country spends on all pensions combined. The ‘10% GDP investment’ claim is a myth; the real figure is 4.9%, the lowest in Europe. We aren’t building a country; we’re funding a heist,” he said.
According to Berisha, the DP has developed a premier economic program vetted by top European and international institutions. He emphasized that once the party’s internal reorganization is complete, the DP will press forward with peaceful protests aimed at unseating the current government.
