Berisha: EU integration requires earned progress, not bought influence

TIRANA, May 16/ATA/ Chairman of the Democratic Party in opposition Sali Berisha stated during an online conversation with citizens that the opposition supports the European integration process, but stressed that it should be based on merit and on meeting standards.

“Integration is our national goal, but the journey to Europe cannot be a political compromise. It must be a merit-based process driven by real reform,” Berisha said.

According to him, Albania should fully meet the criteria of the European Union and that the integration process should not be influenced by lobbying or corrupt practices.

During the conversation, Berisha also focused on the joint DP-SP resolution on integration, describing it as a document that puts the emphasis on tasks and not on evaluation of the institutions.

“Edi Rama is the most anti-Albanian prime minister. We never follow Edi Rama. You see, from 2007 to 2014 the number of Albanians in Albania has increased year by year. But, from 2015 to 2024, 47% of Albanians have left the country,” Berisha said. /e.xh/a.f/p.s./
