TIRANA, May 5 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama on Tuesday highlighted the growth of Albanian family-run businesses during a visit to food producer “Alegria” in the southern city of Gjirokaster, describing it as a success story with expanding international reach.
What began as a small family enterprise has evolved into a modern operation employing more than 80 people and serving over 4,000 customers a day, following investments in technology, innovation and product development.
The company has increased exports tenfold in recent years, entering markets including the United States, Canada, Belgium and the United Kingdom, while also expanding into Eastern markets amid rising demand for traditional Albanian foods.
Its product range remains rooted in tradition, featuring staples such as jufka, petë and trahana, alongside newer lines supported by automated production, including caramelised popcorn. The company has also introduced distinctive packaging formats not yet widely seen in regional markets.
Alegria sources a significant share of its raw materials from local farmers, supporting the regional economy and strengthening supply chains in southern Albania.
PM Rama said businesses of this kind play a key role in promoting “Made in Albania” products abroad and in driving domestic economic growth, underlining the importance of continued support for innovation and exports.
