FM Hoxha: Albania’s accession process is free from any vetoes

TIRANA, May 4/ATA/ Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha confirmed that Albania’s EU accession negotiations are proceeding as planned, dismissing rumors of a veto or blocking by member states.

During a hearing session at the Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs, Hoxha characterized the integration process as a rigorous, merit-driven journey, structured around the implementation of deep reforms and the achievement of tangible results.

According to him, Albania has made significant headway in a short period of time.

“On October 13, 2024, Albania had not opened any negotiation chapter, while only 13 months later, on November 17, 2025, all chapters, a total of 33, were opened,” he said, appreciating this as an unprecedented progress.

He added that the progress achieved is reflected in the Interim Assessment Report (IBAR), drafted by the European Commission and submitted for consideration to the structures of the Council of the European Union.

According to Hoxha, the Commission’s recommendations have been positive, recognizing the fulfillment of commitments by the Albanian side.

Referring to the public debate, Hoxha emphasized that the process is moving forward without obstruction and fully in line with agreed objectives.

“The EU negotiation process is proceeding normally, with no vetoes or blocks, as confirmed by the EU Delegation in Tirana. Both Commissioner Kos and High Representative Kallas have formally acknowledged Albania’s tangible progress”, said Hoxha.

Reiterating a 2030 target for EU accession, the minister pledged to sustain deep, structural reforms focused on the rule of law. Recent high-level visits from EU counterparts highlight the positive momentum and strong international backing for Albania’s integration, said FM Hoxha. /gj.m/j.p/p.s./
