TIRANA, May 3 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama on Sunday shared images from the 20th anniversary of the “Vespa Albania” club.
“Vespa enthusiasts from 17 different countries gathered in Durrës, turning the city into a unique meeting point of energy, style, and passion on two wheels,” Rama highlighted in a social media post.
The 20th anniversary of the founding of the ‘Vespa Albania’ club brought together approximately 400 enthusiasts of the renowned Italian motor brand ‘Vespa’ in the city of Durrës. Attendees included members of Albanian clubs as well as participants who had traveled from numerous countries across Europe and beyond.
As part of the celebrations, the coastal city was transformed into a vibrant parade of colors and sounds, with dozens of iconic Vespa models—ranging from vintage classics to the most modern versions—traversing the boulevards and the seaside promenade. The event also featured musical performances and symbolic stops at Durrës’s historic landmarks, turning the anniversary into not only a community celebration but also a promotion of the city’s tourism and urban culture.
The history of the Vespa began in 1946 in Italy, when the company Piaggio introduced the first model as a simple, budget-friendly, and practical mode of daily transportation in the aftermath of the Second World War. Designed by engineer Corradino D’Ascanio, the Vespa distinguished itself through its innovative monocoque frame and ease of use.
The name ‘Vespa’ (meaning wasp) was inspired by the distinctive sound of its engine and the elegant shape of its body. Over the decades, Vespa evolved into a global icon of Italian style and urban culture, closely associated with youth movements and cinema of the 1950s and 1960s.
