TIRANA, May 2 /ATA/ – The Black Drin River is increasingly emerging as a destination for adventure tourism, attracting growing numbers of domestic and foreign visitors seeking water sports and outdoor experiences in northeastern Albania.
Rafting has become one of the newest additions to the tourism offer in the northeastern region of Dibër, further expanding the area’s appeal for adventure enthusiasts and nature travelers.
Prime Minister Edi Rama on Saturday shared images marking the opening of the rafting season in Dibër, describing the experience as a unique combination of adrenaline, wild landscapes, and the untouched beauty of the region.
With its scenic valley and fast-flowing waters, the Black Drin offers favorable conditions for rafting and is increasingly being viewed as a promising destination for the development of adventure tourism in Albania.
The river originates from Lake Ohrid at an altitude of 695 meters above sea level before flowing through North Macedonia and entering Albanian territory near the city of Dibër. Stretching a total of 149 kilometers, including 56 kilometers within North Macedonia, the river winds through mountainous terrain and partially forms the border between the two countries.
Near Kukës, the Black Drin merges with the White Drin to form the Drin River, which eventually flows into the Adriatic Sea.
As Albania continues to diversify its tourism sector beyond coastal destinations, the Black Drin is increasingly positioning itself as a destination where adventure tourism and unspoiled nature converge.
